Apart.Art project

During the years 2009-2011 the Apart.Art Gallery Home project, located in Florentine neighborhood
in south Tel Aviv, operated as 80 square meters of residential, gallery and studio combined space. The place acted as a platform for experiencing an integral kind of living where routines of private spaces integrate with public spaces activities. Breaking the boundaries between the private and the public
spaces created a hosting space for exceptional human and artistic occurrences.

The living room was the main exhibition space, the yard was the central meeting place, and the tenant acted as the host-curator-instructor of the gallery. Exposing the tenant's private life in an experimental space summoned the opportunity to exhibit works of art in surprising places (such as in the lavatory) and to entertain special artists and events.

During the two years of activity, twenty-four different exhibitions were held in the gallery, all of which were curated by the tenant-curator-artist Rotem Ritov. In addition to operating a gallery space, other events of different natures took place in Apart.Art: public documentaries movies screenings, book launches, gallery talks, performances, residencies, selling works of art, and more...

Visitors in Apart.Art private/public space experienced a direct, personal and informal connection with the curator-hostess and the art works. The combined artist's residence, studio and gallery formed  an experience of deeper connection between the viewer and the viewed art, and stimulated creative and curious questions about the role of art in society and local community.
